A Personal Retreat with Jitei

For seven years I am walking the Kaihōgyō; a pilgrimage of 35,000 miles and many hours of zazen within Lancaster Cemetery. This practice is my temple, It is where all distinctions between monk, path, and place fall away.

From this, a new form of teaching has emerged. Don’t think of it as a retreat or a workshop, but a direct meeting between lives. A day (or multiple days) of practice in the cemetery allows the living Dharma to reveal itself without walls, robes, or ceremony.

Walk. Sit.
Eat. Speak.

From the first light of day until the night settles, we walk among the pathways, sit in silence, and share simple meals.

Nothing to achieve. Nothing to fix. Just this moment, lived completely.

Three times a day we stop and eat or drink together. During those times just ask what you truly need to ask. No performance, no teaching style, just honest conversation over simple food.

It really sends a shiver down my spine to offer this practice, what I’m offering isn’t a “retreat” at all, it’s direct transmission through shared presence. It is the ancient form of Zen before there were monasteries, when practice happened in mountain caves.

You’ll be stepping into that rhythm; walking with me amongst the headstones, sitting in silence, asking questions across a simple bowl of food.
